Photographs from the Inter-regionals are now available

All Orpington Junior players should be congratulated on their efforts in this tournament.

The under 15s were a very young team and most will be able to play again next year. Their final match was against Medway and was to decide who came second and who came third. The final result of this was 4-3 with one of the games ending with Orpington losing 31-30. This goes to show just how close Orpington were to coming second. Tunbridge Wells took first, winning all their matches and only dropping 3 games. This proves they had a very strong team.

The under 19s came second overall, beating North Foreland despite them having a better match average. Again, Tunbridge Wells won, showing they had a very strong team.

Overall a really good team effort from everyone and congratulations on the results.

22/04/08 Tournament entries & Disco Tickets
The OJs tournament this year will take place on Saturday 10th May and the disco on Saturday 24th May.

TOURNAMENT

In addition to the U11, U13 and U15 events currently planned, we have now also added an U18 event, so players from all classes are now eligible and strongly encouraged to enter the tournament - You can download a copy of the entry form from the Tournamets page. Class coaches will also be ringing round this week to chase those who have not yet entered! If you have not yet entered the tournament, please could you bring your completed entry forms and money with you this Saturday!!!

DISCO

All of the trophies from the tournament, plus the class awards, will be presented at the Disco, which takes place this year on Saturday 24th May from 7.30pm-11.30pm at The Crofton Halls, Orpington. This is our usual end of season event where all players and parents attend from across all 5 classes, plus Thursday evenings, together with all the coaches and assistants. It is also an important fundraiser for the club to keep subscriptions for the following season to an absolute minimum and we would therefore very much appreciate your support.

For those entering the tournament, you can purchase tickets for the disco via your entry form. If you cannot make the tournament, on the Links and Downloads page there is a simple form which should be completed and returned to your class coach by Saturday 3rd May!!!

Once again, the club very much appreciates your support this season and we hope that you will support our end of season tournament and disco. If you have any questions concerning either, please do not hesitate to contact Paul Parham.

We look forward to seeing you all at the tournament and disco.
14/04/08 Transplant Racquets Tournament

Class 4 assistant coach, Paul German, took part in the annual Transplant Sports UK Raquets tournament on Saturday 5th April. This was the first year that the tournament has expanded from badminton only, to include tennis and squash also. This was possible because of the excellent facilities which the club has offered at no charge. All competitors that took part have had a life saving organ transplant including kidney, heart, liver, lung and bone marrow.

The transplant athletes travelled from all parts of the UK. The aims of the Games are; ‘To create a greater awareness and understanding of the benefits of transplantation, and at the same time highlight the desperate need for more people to sign onto the Organ Donor Register’.

This event also played an important part in the UK Team selection process for the next World Transplant Games, to be held on the Gold Coast, in 2009.

The tournament was organized under the auspices of Transplant Sport UK and coordinated by Craig Morrow, himself a kidney recipient from St. Helier Hospital.

Lynne Holt, Transplant Coordinator, at the Freeman Hospital and UK Team Manager says: “Many of the transplant athletes have experienced near death situations and long illness, and it is gratifying to see them able to enjoy a full life, thanks to organ donation. Hopefully this event will encourage others to sign on the Organ Donor Register and most importantly, discuss their wishes with their loved ones’.

All the athletes who are competing in this event have heart-warming stories to tell, and many have competed in other national and international events. For further information please contact Craig on 07770 666768 or Lynne on 07900014344, who can supply details and contact numbers in your area, should you wish to follow up.

Transplant patients owe their lives to the generosity of others, who donate the ‘Gift of Life’. Please help us to raise public awareness about transplantation and sign up on the Organ Donor register. To register, and for more information please go to www.uktransplant.org.uk or contact the Organ Donor Line on 0845 60 60 400 – Please also visit - www.transplantsport.org.uk

Thank you on behalf of transplant patients and their families.
