Lead Coach - Jan Upson

"I am a qualified UKCC Level 2 coach and have been helping in Class 1 with the OJs for 4 years. My involvement with OJs started when my son joined Class 2 many years ago. I also hold the position of Publicity Manager within the club and this has involved the writing and distribution of the regular OJs Newsletter (which will now be replaced by this new web site). I also help to run the OJs Seniors which is held every Thursday evening at the Priory Sports Centre. For the last 3 years I have managed a "youth squad" of older OJs (16 - 20 years) who have competed in the local Orpington/NW Kent summer league. Last year (2006) saw the team outright winners of division 4 and I am delighted to say they have retained the title again for 2007."

"I have been playing badminton since 1985, starting in Norwich at the age of 15 and then in the local leagues at 16. I received coaching with the Norfolk County junior squad but left that area for Kent at 17. Since being in Kent I have played for a variety of clubs and played at the top level in a number of leagues finally retiring In 2008. I passed my UKCC level two in 2008 and I am providing coaching support for various classes at OJ's and assisting with the Kent U13 squad and I am having great fun seeing the fast progress that all the children are making."
